TREETOPS is suitable for hospitals/sites which host clinical trials who wish to review how sustainable their waste management processes are with regards to clinical trials kit supplies and pharmacy processes. Sites will answer a series of questions which correspond with a score, at the end of each survey they will receive a low, medium or high environmental impact score.
TREETOPS was developed based on a waste audit and associated survey completed at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust with support from the Experimental Cancer Medicine Centres network. The audit showed that clinical trial sites receive large numbers of unnecessary trials supplies which go to waste.
Results from a pilot version of the tool can be seen here: “Assessment of the environmental impact of clinical trials“
Key Features
INTERACTIVE
When sites receive a medium or high score, they will receive advice about how to improve the sustainability of their processes. Sites with a low score will be asked to share what they do so more information can be built into the tool.
ACCESSIBLE
Anyone working in clinical trials can complete the tool (e.g. Research Nurses or Clinical Trials Coordinators).
DATA
Answers provided within the surveys are collected to facilitate a dataset which can be shared with trials sponsors to reduce provision of unnecessary trials supplies.
SIMPLE
Surveys will take no more than 5 minutes to complete
